Exclusive Interview with Decentraland Metaverse Builder Mr.Dhingia

Updated: Jan 15, 2023

Interviewing one of the most well-known builders in Decentraland, Mr.Dhingia. Creating epic buildings for brands, influencers, and creators inside the metaverse. These Builds create immersive experiences with the use of SDK bringing the next wave of content creation and advertisement.

The Metaverse is a growing industry, and Architecture is one industry that is changing the game when it comes to building 3D worlds and experiences.

Let's dive deep, as we ask Mr. Dhingia about his experiences in Decentraland and his journey as a builder!

Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how did you end up discovering Decentraland?

A. In October 2021, Facebook announced that they would be launching a new metaverse platform called Horizon. I joined Decentraland shortly after doing my research on an existing metaverse platform. I found Decentraland to be a fully immersive and interactive 3D environment where users can interact with each other and engage with virtual worlds and experiences. There have been a lot of interested people coming into the metaverse since then.

Q. When did you start learning 3D architecture and how long did it take you to learn this skill?

A. I have always had a strong desire to create. I have excelled in art competitions and received numerous accolades. Since 2010, I've worked with numerous builders, architects, and other individuals involved in actual construction. I have worked with clients and the team to coordinate projects that include floor plans, elevations, interiors, and various other construction-related processes. I gained a great deal of knowledge while working in the architectural field. One of them was 3D modeling. When I first started playing DCL, I was a player exploring the environment. Later, I learned that we could load GLB files in the builder and deploy them on land. That's how my building journey started.

Q.What inspires you the most when creating a building for a brand?

A. When designing a building for a brand, I am inspired by the brand's goals and vision, as well as the building's specific aims and priorities. I also consider the target audience's requirements and preferences, as well as the build's overall aesthetic and atmosphere. In addition, I strive to incorporate functionality and innovation into the design to distinguish the building and improve the user experience.

Q.How long does it take to create a build from start to finish and deployed it in Decentraland?

A. For builds for Decentraland, the time it takes to create a build from start to finish and deploy it in Decentraland can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the build. Building and testing can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. It's important to test the build as you go to ensure it performs well and meets the requirements. Optimization and maintenance is an ongoing process, it's important to optimize and maintain the build after it's deployed. This can include fixing bugs in SDK, adding new features, and making adjustments to ensure the best performance.

Q. Are there any limitations to building in a 3D world?

A. Although I see endless possibilities, I also see limitations, 3D worlds are complex and require significant technical expertise to create, maintain, and optimize. There are limitations on the number of objects, textures, and polygons that can be used in a scene without causing performance issues. Building a 3D world takes time, and it's not a fast process, as it requires a detailed design, planning, testing, and iterating. Despite these constraints, building in a 3D world can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and technology is constantly improving, allowing for more complex and immersive builds.

Q. For those who are interested in creating 3D Builds, what advice would you give? Any tips you would like to share with our readers?

  • Start small: When you're first starting out, it's best, to begin with small, manageable projects that you can complete quickly. This will help you get a feel for the process and build your skills over time.

  • Learn the basics: Before diving into creating a build, it's important to learn the basics of the software and tools you'll be using. Take online tutorials, read documentation, and watch videos to get a solid understanding of the tools you'll be working with.

  • Plan before you build: Before you start building, take the time to plan out your project. Sketch out a rough design, create a list of materials you'll need, and set a timeline for yourself. Having a plan in place will help you stay on track and make the building process more efficient.

  • Be open to feedback: Building in the metaverse is a collaborative process and it's important to be open to feedback and suggestions from others. Seek out the community and other builders, and be willing to take constructive criticism and make adjustments to your builds.

  • Experiment and be creative: A metaverse is a place of endless possibilities, don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Take inspiration from the world around you and let your creativity guide you.

  • Keep an eye on the performance: 3D builds can be resource-intensive, so it's important to keep an eye on the performance of your build and make adjustments as necessary. Test your build on different hardware and an internet connection, and optimize as needed.

  • Stay up to date: The Decentraland SDK is constantly evolving, so it's important to stay up to date with the latest trends, tools, and best practices. Follow Decentraland official blogs, news, and developments, and participate in the official DCL discord to stay informed.

  • Have fun: Building in the Decentraland should be an enjoyable experience, so remember to have fun and enjoy the process!

  • Remember that building in the Decentraland is an iterative process, don't be discouraged if your first build isn't perfect, it's all about learning, experimenting, and improving. It's amazing how things change with time and learning something new every single day.

Q. If a brand or an individual has an idea and wants a build to come to life, how shall one reach you or share their vision?

A. For Decentraland, there are several ways that a brand or individual can reach out and share their vision for a build. I'm available with the username Mr.Dhingia and my website MrDhingia.com, I'm reachable on all social media. where clients can message me with a query. It's essential to have a concise and thorough explanation of the project, including its goals, timeframe, and budget. To have a more fruitful conversation with the team, it's also helpful to have a general understanding of the project's design, such as what kind of building it will be and how it will be used. The excitement we feel with every new project never fades. Let's keep building!
