Today we will learn more about Vapo, a Decentraland native who is currently full time in web 3. Hi Vapo, We would love to know what your background is as far as career ? What made you jump into web 3 like Decentraland full time ?
Thank you for these questions! My background is diverse and includes working in a private bank, teaching English, pursuing law school, and gaining customer service experience while working for the government. I switched from computer science to marketing, which is what I'm currently doing while working full-time in web3. I jumped into web3 because I'm passionate about its potential to decentralize and democratize the internet.
Decentraland, in particular, caught my attention because of its unique approach to creating a virtual world where users have complete control over their digital assets."
Can you describe your experience managing online communities?
"In terms of managing online communities, I have experience moderating various communities, including those on social media, forums, online game servers and Discord servers. My first ones in web3 were @MetaGamiMall and @MetaDripMD, which I am still extremely thankful for the opportunity given to me."
What tools and strategies do you use to engage with community members and foster a positive community culture?
"I believe that active listening and open communication are essential to building and maintaining a positive community culture. "
We know web 3 can be intense sometimes, how do you handle conflict resolution?
"I try to remain calm, impartial, and solution-focused. I usually start by identifying the root cause of the conflict and then work with the parties involved to find a mutually acceptable solution."
How do you identify and prioritize community needs and feedback?
"I analyze data from various sources, such as community surveys, social media analytics, and user feedback. I also like to engage with community members directly to get a better understanding of their needs and pain points."
How do you collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as marketing and product development, to ensure community needs are addressed?
"To collaborate with cross-functional teams, I ensure that community feedback is shared with relevant parties, such as marketing and product development teams. I also advocate for the needs of the community and work with these teams to address any issues or concerns raised by community members."
How do you manage and respond to negative feedback or criticism from community members?
"Negative feedback and criticism are inevitable in any community. To manage and respond to such feedback, I try to remain objective and constructive in my responses. I listen carefully to the concerns raised, acknowledge them, and work with the community to find a solution that meets their needs."
How has your web 3 career influenced your position in web 3 ?
"My experience in web3 has significantly shaped my approach to community management. In this industry, community is at the core of everything, and I've learned that building strong relationships with users is essential for success. As a result, I focus on fostering trust and communication with community members.
Additionally, my knowledge of web3 technologies and principles has allowed me to better understand the needs and concerns of the community. For example, I understand the importance of user control over data, privacy, and security. This understanding enables me to effectively prioritize community feedback and ensure their needs are met."
How do you stay up-to-date with trends and best practices in community management?
"I wish attending IRL conferences was an option for me at the moment as well, because I know how much knowledge you gain and connections you can make there. I like to experiment with new tools (such as AI) and strategies and gather feedback from my team and community to see what works best. I used to hear podcasts like Community Signal but nowadays I mostly get updated by following specific people on Twitter and reading news from websites with different political perspectives on a daily basis. It's important to understand what everybody is trying to say, even if you don't agree with it."
What projects are you currently working on and where can we find them?
"I am a community mod at @MetaGamiMall, @MetaDripMD, and @OasisArcadeDCL. Also working at a few projects under NDA.
